How to Join
Becoming a member


We welcome applications from local producers who would like to trade at Thames Valley farmers’ markets.


Farmers’ markets are all about selling local produce. In our membership rules we define local as being within 30 miles of each market.


Stallholders may only sell produce that they have grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed themselves.  They are required to have Public and Product liability insurance, as well as local authority environmental health checks completed (where applicable).


For secondary produce (baked, pickled, smoked, brewed or processed goods) your product must contain at least 25% local ingredients. Please note that we have had an unprecedented number of applications from secondary producers in the last few months, particularly from bakers, therefore we may not be able to progress your application until we can guarantee space for you at our markets.


Stalls must be staffed by the producer, a family member or someone who is directly involved in producing the goods on sale, or those with a good working knowledge of the production process.


Traders at our markets are members of the co-operative. To make sure that we can guarantee the provenance and quality of all goods sold at Thames Valley Farmersí Markets, all Associate members are accredited to ensure that they meet our strict criteria, within six months of joining TVFMC.


If you are interested in joining our co-operative here are the steps involved -



1. Complete and return our application form, which you can download here, along with a copy of your Public and Product Liability Insurance of no less than £5,000,000, and your EHO and Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificates, if applicable.


2. Your application will be reviewed by our board of Directors for approval. If you meet our membership criteria, we will ask you to complete a Risk Assessment, as this is required by our insurance company.


3.You will be notified once your application is approved and can start trading at markets where there is space. In the first six months of attending our markets, stallholders are charged the reduced rate of £20.00 stall fee (usually £30) at every market they attend. In addition, if you are categorised as a 'Smaller Producer', you will continue to receive this preferential rate of stall fees after this initial six month period. If you are an alcohol producer, there is an additional licence fee of £7 per market. 


4. After an initial six months of attendance at our markets, you will be invited to become a member of the co-operative and pay a one off £1 charge for your co-operative share. All members pay £2 Membership Fee per market. Upon joining, all members become voting shareholders of the co-operative, with the accompanying benefits this provides.
